Love Rome?

I had the privilege of visiting this gallery with my family when I was ten years old and ever since – it has been an experience that has stuck with me over the years. We stayed in a fantastic hotel Rome in the centre, where Rome accommodation was abundant.

The original sculptures and paintings in the Borghese Gallery date back the early 17th Century and to Cardinal Scipione Borgheses’ collection, the son of Ortensia Borghese - Paolo V's sister - and of Francesco Caffarelli, though subsequent events over the next three centuries entailing both losses and acquisition have left their mark.

I feel that the “pièce de resistance” of the Borghese Gallery has to be Correggio’s spectacular work of art “Danäe” which was aquired by the gallery in 1827, or “David with the Head of Goliath” by “Caravaggio”.

The gallery also houses a whole host of fantastic paintings, many of which have been begged borrowed or stolen over the years and ended up in the Borghese Gallery. Take for example the beautiful painting of Raphael's Deposition, which was secretely removed from the Baglioni Chapel in the church of S.Francesco in Perugia and transported to Rome. It was given to the Cardinal Scipione through a papal motu proprio,(a document issued by the Pope on his own initiative and personally signed by him).

Furthermore, be sure not to miss the gallery’s latest exhibition from May 22 to September 14 2008, which is dedicated to three great artists; Michelangelo, Correggio and Raphael. Close by the gallery there are lots of apartment Rome.

More than 60 paintings will be on display in Rome, with several firsts. For the first time anywhere, visitors will able to see Danäe, Jupiter and The Abduction of Ganymede (from the Kunsthistorisches Museum of Vienna), The Education of Cupid (from the National Gallery of London), and Venus and Cupid with a Satyr (from the Louvre) together.
